Search and download academic papers from open-access repositories.

Overview

Academic Search helps researchers find and download scholarly articles: - Search across multiple academic databases - Download PDFs and metadata - Export citations in various formats - Organize research by topic

Getting Started

  1. Navigate to Dashboard > Academic Search
  2. Enter search query (keywords, authors, topics)
  3. Configure search filters
  4. Click Search
  5. Review results and select papers
  6. Download selected papers

Search Features

Query Options

  • Keywords - Search paper titles and abstracts
  • Author - Find papers by specific authors
  • Year range - Filter by publication date
  • Open access only - Show freely available papers

Result Information

Each result shows: - Paper title and authors - Publication year and venue - Abstract preview - Open access status - Citation count

Downloading Papers

Individual Download

Click the download button on any paper to save: - PDF (when available) - Metadata (JSON) - Citation (BibTeX)

Batch Download

  1. Select multiple papers with checkboxes
  2. Click Download Selected
  3. All papers download to a session

Output Files

Downloads create a session containing: - papers/ - PDF files - metadata.json - All paper metadata - citations.bib - BibTeX citations - summary.md - Search summary

Citation Formats

Export citations as: - BibTeX - APA - MLA - Chicago - IEEE

Sources

Academic Search queries: - Semantic Scholar - arXiv - PubMed (for medical research) - CrossRef

Tips for Effective Searches

  1. Use specific terms - Narrow queries get better results
  2. Try author names - Good for finding researcher's work
  3. Filter by year - Recent papers for current research
  4. Check abstracts - Preview before downloading

Sharing Research Collections

Share your downloaded research with AI:

  1. Complete your search and downloads
  2. Go to My Files > Academic
  3. Find your search session
  4. Click Share on metadata.json
  5. Select Full Access for AI consumption
  6. Use in Custom GPT for research assistance

Example: Create a Research GPT

  1. Download papers on your topic
  2. Share the metadata file with Full Access
  3. Create a Custom GPT with instructions: You have access to a collection of academic papers. Use the metadata to answer questions about the research. Cite specific papers with authors and years.

Troubleshooting

"No results found"

  • Try broader search terms
  • Check spelling
  • Remove restrictive filters

"PDF not available"

  • Paper may not be open access
  • Try accessing from institution network
  • Check arXiv for preprints

"Download failed"

  • Retry the download
  • Check your connection
  • Some papers may be temporarily unavailable

Downloaded papers appear in My Files > Academic
